Oh my goodness! Being retired never looked so good! A staple in banking for the African American community in the Jackson, TN, Ms. Jeannie is retiring today from BancorpSouth after a long, successful forty-one years! Ms. Jeannie opened up to me a few weeks ago about her historical journey in the banking industry over the years. Being able to sit and listen to the wisdom she learned along the way has been priceless. One of the biggest take-aways from that conversation after asking her how she navigated being a successful minority in banking. She replied, “always be yourself and respect people like you want to be respected.” Creating a lane for herself, Jeannie touched the lives of many African American families, churches, and businesses while in banking. She felt if was somewhat her calling to serve her community! I am honored to capture this journey with her. So I asked, “what do you plan to do when you retire?” She replied, “I’m going to relax and do me.” To one of the classiest women I have ever met in life, thank you for your service, your knowledge, and your heart!
